Competency-based training delivery

Australia’s VET system is a competency-based system. This means training shall be based on Units of Competency that describe:

  • Performance standards to perform work tasks
  • Required knowledge to perform those work tasks
  • Required skills to perform those work tasks.

Units of Competency all available from the training.gov.au website.

An RTO must deliver training that has been designed to help a person learn to perform work tasks to the standard that is expected in the workplace.

Learning about competency-based training delivery

The TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification has been designed for trainers and assessors to develop their capabilities to work within the VET system.

Note: The TAEDEL311 Provide work skill instruction unit of competency may be used to deliver training that can be competency-based or not competency-based.
